New F-1 Visa Requirements. What to Know

You’ve heard about it. Let’s talk about it. US Embassies and Consulates will now require a social media check for all visa types. You will need to make your social media profiles “public” on the day of your interview.

We are excited! This is great news, as it’s another way for you to show why you deserve a visa! Here’s what you should know:

A) What the US Government wants to see
– Posts (not just stories)
– Photos of family & friends
– Travel, tourism, and fun things you do
– Study photos / dreams for your future (in your country)
Tip: Photos should show your face (so they can confirm it’s you). If they can’t see your face, they don’t know it’s you in the photo!

B) What may be a problem? (Don’t post about…)
– Politics or war (in your country OR the USA)
– Working / immigrating in the USA
– MoneyTip: Remove old posts that may talk about these topics

C) Golden Tips
– The government wants to see ~6 months of social media presence. Start posting more right now!
– Make posts, not just stories
– Show them what is important in your home country. They want to make sure you will go home after studying in the USA, so showing your connection to family, friends, and places in your country are important!
Tip: If you have no posts, the government doesn’t know what’s important to you. You must have posts & social media to pass a visa interview
